  • Every year I do a swag of real greenery over my hearth. Sorry i can t post a pic as I ve never taken one. To ensure that the greenery lasts at least 2 weeks is pretty easy.. I use 2 oblong blocks of oasis in the holders. You can get these at the garden centre or a florist. i put a tea towel folded under as I keep watering throughout the season. I use greenery from the garden and can extend in right to the edge of the mantle. The the 'arms' down I use fake sway I got from B and Q. No decoration. I use florist wire to hold up, I get mine round the back of the mantlepiece. I then use cinnamon sticks, dried orange slices and sprayed cones. I like larch tree ones and these can all just be placed into the sway. I put real flowers in the arrangement over the top, depending on my colour theme for the year. Spray carnations in red white etc. I use spray paint to add a hint of gold or silver.

  • Fuddle your garland sounds gorgeous and has inspired me to forage !!

Me and my little boy made a paper chain garland last year and I also bought some cheapo mini felt stockings from B & Q, strung them on some ric rac and cut out red fabric letters spelling Merry Christmas. I then glued them onto the stockings with my trusty glue gun. The stockings were in the bargain bucket for 30p each and I used some scrap red fabric for the letters. Was very cheap to make but looked pretty.

I do mine very similar to ponymad I use three blocks of green oasis on oasis trays and join them up with greenery. Larch is very good as it usually has cones on it. I use led lights from the pound shop placed among on the greenery. The ends that I want to hang down the side of the fireplace I use ivy trails and thread bunches of berries and cones round the ivy

i've made one of these out of felt to hang on mine. when it isn't xmas i have a similar one in purple which says home in my lounge and a blue one in my dining room saying family.

It is very easy to make from felt. just takes time and patience. but looks fab all yr round. try googling felt garlands and there is so much choice.

Craft shops, fabric shops and haberdashery all sell felt. There are various qualities of felt so don't just choose the cheapest.

    Hi

I dont know if this is quite what you had in mind, but I was in B&Q this morning and they have the plain green Garlands 9 Foot for £5.00. I already have loads of light and spare baubles and the likes, so im going to put some lights around them, some baubles and maybe some bows, depending on how it looks. They are ok when the branches sorted out.

I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:
