Filling in your details

Hi All

Bit of a noob at all this, so I was just wondering:

Does it matter what details you put when applying for the comps?

Should you fill everything in, even if they're not all compulsary?
Does answering differently to "when will you next buy a car" help?

Do people really just pull them out of the hat, or do they draw from a subset of entrants based on certain criteria. (ie, if there was a competition to win a night out at ministry of sound, they might not want to show an 89yo woman tottering about in any resulting promos?).

Also, does it make a difference if you decline their junk mail etc?

Thanks

Yes. Youve got to put real contact details down otherwise how do they tell you youve won??
Most comps are there to get your details so they can send you 'information'.
But you should be able to opt out of them sending you this junk. Usually there is a number of tick boxes, read them carefully as some are opt out, some opt in!!!
If you can't, stay away from the competition.

Personally I only give the compulsary info. As I am only interested in entering the competition and not receiving any info of the companies services/products.

You never know how random the draw is. Only the drawmaster knows this.

I would set up a new email address specifically for entering competitions. Most ISPs allow more than one email address. This will help stop spam getting into your real/normal email folders. But at the same time allowing you to received 'Congratulations, youve won' messages. :-)

If you have a look on the main competitions form board, there is a sticky Competiton Discussions, and a lot of what you asked is already on there.

Have people who dont tick the "we want to send you info" boxes won many prizes? I worked for a company that had a few prize draws once and (although I know this prob isnt legal etc) people who hadn't ticked those boxes didnt seem to win  so now I just tick them all just in case.... So has anyone who never ticks them ever won anything good? Coz i would like to know that I didnt have to tick them all the time...

I never tick the boxes. I've been comping for about 2 years and I've won some great prizes such as £500, holiday to Amsterdam Hilton with flights, weekend in Cardiff (not so great), weekend in London, front row tickets for The Cure, tickets for George Michael, various DVDs, CDs etc etc.
