Apparently it cant go to landfill as it's a hazard now? Live in Portadown and Fairgreen (local dump) wont take it.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it legally and free?

That's odd, Plasterboard is largely bio-degradeable, it's basically plaster (which mostly comes from the ground) and paper. It won't last long if left outside..
I would suggest ringing the council and asking them how/where is appropriate to dispose of plasterboard. It has to go somewhere..0 -
My local council dump takes it and puts it along with rubble0

My local council refused to let me put it in the builder's rubble skip, but let me put it in the general rubbish skip. I thought it was because it had paper in it and/or because it was soft and would could not be recycled as hard fill.
However. in saying that, I see now after doing a search on it, plasterboard is now officially treated separately because it contains quite a bit of sulphur which they are worried about leaking out from landfill sites. Whether this is reasonable, I am not sure, but that seems to be the situation.0 -
Bangor will not be so handy to you, but after recent renovations I know they take their recycling seriously and have a skip only for plasterboard which is separate from the rubble and builders waste. When I asked wht they did with it, I seem to remember they save it all up and it goes towards Newry or further south to be recycled.:j
To save wasted journeys, try phoning your local council and asking them what you should do with it.0 -
It is the gypsum that is the problem. When mixed with biodegradable waste it can produce hydrogen sulphide. It is supposed to be placed in a separate cell in a land fill site. The Councils really should offer facilities where small amounts can be deposited by individuals for recycling.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0

Our local recycling cente has a container for plaster board. Have you tried yours?0

Thanks for all the replies, Will give the dump 'in' Lurgan a ring as they might take it failing that a trip to Bangor seems to be in order.0
