Sluban/Lego for girls

My DD will be 6 in a couple of weeks and has asked for Lego for her birthday.
I have bought her a box of the starter kit but there isnt much in the way of 'girls' lego and she isnt really into Star Wars or Harry Potter so she is only really left with the City stuff that I dont think she will enjoy too much.
I googled 'girls lego' and came across Sluban - has anyone else got any and if so, is it any good?
It looks so much cheaper (by that I mean in cost rather than quality) than Lego plus they do some 'princess' style sets which my DD would just love.
Just a bit worried as a)I've never heard of it and b)although it says its compatible, am a bit worried that I will end up with 2 lots that cant be used together.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,I was a massive Lego fan as a little girl and I had a castle, riding school etc plus a police station, lol!
I would stick to proper lego as it is about imagination, my ultra girly 8 year old loves the Kingdoms sets, Pirates of the carribean and Pharoah's quest. She is massively into Harry Potter so she does like those sets.
Have you seen the winter themed sets? They are lovely and quite appealing for girls, e.g http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Winter-Village-Bakery-10216
http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Winter-Village-Post-Office-10222
Also these are fun, you did use to be able to detach the figures from the magnets http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/LEGO-Female-Minifigure-Magnet-Set-852948
You can also make your own minifigures at lego shops.
My daughter has these: http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Camper-7639 and the horse box set and she loves the log cabin and the apple tree house. Really I wouldn't be too fussed about it being "girls" stuff, with enough bits and bobs she'll be making what she wants to.0 -
I too was a big lego fan as a kid and i don't think they had girlie stuff back then, i used to build houses with staircases. I would just get her a freestyle type set so she can use her imagination and look out for other stuff at boot sales for interesting bits.
I wouldn't bother with look a like stuff like megablox etc as the quality is far inferior to lego (thin plastic) and warps.
Have fun for the next few years stepping on tiny bits in bare feet.(aargh!)0
