Hi:rotfl:
This may be a silly question but can you use a little bit of washing up liquid in the dishwasher if you've run out of dishwasher tablets?

Squeaky has set us up a new sticky at the top of the board for quick questions about anything OS, it's very new so not many will know it is there yet, but when you find it this is the sort of question that is ideal to post there.
To answer the question: NO:D It cCreates far too many suds and has no abrasive qualities to clean dirt and limescale deposits off. Some posters use soda crystals in their DW but I've not had much success. Occasionally I use oridinary washing powder if I run out of dishy but can only get away with a few washes before the cleanliness starts to deteriorate. HTHLife's a beach! I read on here that you can use a little in the prewash compartment plus the dw powder/tablet - only a little though. I know someone whos hubby replaced dw with washing up liquid and it took them ages to get rid of the suds and bubbles.
I guess it depends how strong it is and how much you use.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

It seems a bit of soap powder would be best.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I'm not sure about washing up liquid, but I think you can use washing powder in an emergency0

Sometimes I have just used the d/washer without any powder at all. When I have run out. Not to be recommended long term but it worked for me.Depeds how dirty the dishes are of course.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0

I don't have a dishwasher, so I don't actually know what I'm talking about
but I'm sure I've read on here that washing up liquid in a dw is a bad thing, I think you get enough foam to fill your house

what about the other way around? I don't have a dishwasher, but had some freebie Glist tablets sent in the post ages ago and they are sitting in the cupboard. Could I break them up into powder and use a little bit in the sink instead of washing up liquid?
