Agreed. I lost my cat 2 years ago... he just never came home! But no matter how much it hurts, having a pet is just so rewarding :D

Im so sorry to hear about your dog Rising:( Some people can't understand the deep relationship others have with their pets, i couldn't imagine my home without cats but losing them is so difficult. One of ours got run over earlier this year, she wasn't even a year old and her presence is sorely missed. Most of my cats are old now, 11, 14 and 16 years old(we've had them all since kittens). The vets bills may be higher but the moments with them are precious.

    Debt-free and Proud!
Just popping in to say hello, this is day 1 of being debt free so I am at the baby steps stage. It is a bit scary but I have to say I am really enjoying doing everything the MSE way so hope it stays that way !

I loved Christmas this year, buying from grabbit threads and vouchers throughout the year, I managed to give everyone a very nice present all bought and paid for and even had a wee bit left over for the sales. Started next years presents and joined in the challenges again to help keep on the straight and narrow.

Thanks for starting this thread, I think its a great idea !

  • Aly,

I am so pleased you came to join us here. Just remember to post whenever you need help on the straight and narrow!

Like I do today after overspeanding terribly! Just took out half the emergecy fund for this month! Whooops!

Anyway, I agree with you it's a huge rush doing christmas without any debts. I am now finished for my 2012 birthdays for extended family (26 people, average spend £4.33, average value £15.27) and I am now 13/23 christmas gifts bought for 2012 (spend average £4.99, value average £21.51)! It's such a rush to see those figures and know that I saved a fortune!

I hope for you and everyone else, that the rush of saving money is better then the rush of spending money on credit.

I wish you all the best on your ongoing journey x

Thank you for the welcome !

JulieGeorgiana - wow I thought I was doing well with three Christmas 2012 presents bought and my 3 nephews Christmas 2012 money put away in a jar !

I totally agree about the rush you get being so organised on a low budget and NO credit ....I love it !

Note to self, if JulieGeorgiana can be so organised there is no reason I can't do the same :rotfl:

  • It's funny as I think I'm even more conscious about spending every £ now that it's actually mine ......

  • Aly,

    Of course you can :D

Truth is many people think I am crazy! Not the money saving, but the buying so early. But I find it frees up my time closer to christmas to get my DS as much as I can (and he would like) for under £100! This year I got him 13 books, 2 games, 4 DVD's and 3 Lego. And came 3p under budget! he's read 5 of the books already and only watched 1 DVD!!!

Anyway, as rising says... when it's your money you become much more concious about it (like keeping a record on your spreadsheet!). It's our money... and if we spend it we should spend it on what we want to make us happy :)

    I become a SAHM :)

Ps. The best sales are on now... the shops are desperate to get rid of the 'sale' stock after christmas... and are discounting what's left AGAIN! I got DS a dressingown (£6 from £18) and another christmas gift from M&S today. Slimmer pickings... but better prices :)
