Morning everyone

morning all....'nuther sunny start to the day.....washing being done, S&H fed, expecting arrival of XOH to sort S&H's phone so's she can connect to my internet again [tinternet went down the other night.....BT's fault....but I'd gone and reset everything before I found out]
Am at last able to reduce the heating too.....
Work is happier too.....having spent something like 9 million pounds [or was it 90 million?} on an exercise to see how to contractorise [or, privatise] my place of work, [I am an unCivil Servant].....the government lackeys sent in to come to the same conclusion their predecessors did 5 years ago...and 5 years before that.....have decided the best money-for-value is still for myself and my [hundreds of] colleagues to remain as Civil Servants, because we do what we do, better as we are, than if the whole shebang went to contractors.
Still got to save millions of monies though [despite the total waste of money finding that out in the first place?}
They need to cut the numbers of posts [but need to do it through natural wastage, as they cannot afford redundancy.......hung by their own regulations....a case of 'what's meat for the goose [the posh upper echelons of the CS] is meat for the gander [us more 'umble minions]...]
Plus, the numbers of posts to meet the current business demands, whilst being less in number than they are now... creates a problem.
The next periods forecasted business demand is much greater, so....if they get rid of posts now, to meet the current requirement, they are going to be seriously short of posts for the next period.
And...cannot recruit! [takes two full years from writing advert, to having a person to the same standard of skill as someone like myself...so that too, is a problem]..
Plus, currently we have an 'aging workforce'....
with the problems age brings.
Some will, and want to, retire.....some fall long-term poorly....some fall of their perches......some of us want to wind up our management by insisting on working past the age of 70!
So, currently, it's a big game of musical chairs at work...without the music.
Offices moved into last year, are being moved again....[I don't work from an office, but the administration for my work does]...so there's all these auld fahrts wandering around all day, trying to find where the office they want has shuffled off to....?
phone numbers have all changed.....as have printer locations...[yesterday, I popped in to print of several sheets of something.....somewhere on the vast site where I work, is an office with a printer full of all sorts of weird [for them] stuff... because, I couldn't find it!]
I gave up.
Some bright spark collared me at a tea break last week... demanded to know why I hadn't replied to his email? I told him I only go near a computer once a fortnight, for my overtime.....and what did he email me about?
He wouldn't tell me!
So..I made a point of going onto a computer, finding all my totally unwanted and superfluous emails....and deleted the lot.
Without reading them [cannot be bothered with all this electronic admin]
We have arrived at a situation where people would rather email each other, than pop next door and have a chat!
So...stuff 'em!
The only reason I'd use email for communication at work, is to deliberately set up a provable chain of communication.
Which means, I am being downright awkward towards management to prove a point.
As I said, I'm an Uncivil servant. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Afternoon Alastair
I do love your posts, you invariably make me laugh though there's a lot of serious "stuff" always.
Carry on being "awkward", there are not enough people asking questions nowadays, we've all become sheep due to fear of losing the few jobs available
Looking forward to your next update already.
Take care
