Help--please

Hi

we are taking a 3 hour flight tomorrow and I have the most bunged up head I have ever had. Started with a cold, now cant breath threw my nose and have ear ache. went to Drs for ear ache, told it will just go away. Decongestants don't seem to help much.

Does anyone have any good ideas for making the flight bearable?? Its our 25th wedding anniversary, and I already look fantastic with a shiny red nose and no sleep. My poor oh has had to put up with me snoring for a change.

any help VERY gratefully received.

    bless you,poor thing!
i'd suggest loads of fluids, some vitamins, breathe right strips, and i've found boots own decongestant (from behind the pharmacy counter) work really well-they are stronger than any of the "cold and flu" things and much cheaper.good luck and, "congratulations on 25 years"!!

As above, also I agree with loads of watery drinks, try and take lots of them as hot as you can too.

Avoid sugar and dairy today and try inhaling steam with some olbas oil in to try and loosen things a bit.

Use a lipsalve stick on your sore nose and apply a little oil/vaseline and gently massaging around your nose and sinuses with your fingertips in small circles can sometimes help ease things a bit too.

If you use decongestants, you need to keep taking them at regular intervals as per the instructions on the pack to feel the max benefit, not just a one-off.

Really work at it today, I think you could see some improvement by tomorrow.

    Good luck!

Bronnie, thanks, will try this. would have "thanked" you, but my thanks button seems to have vanished. Will avoiding sugar and dairy help much? Chocolate is my drug of choice!

  • Also if you get some karvol or olbas oil and smell it throughout the flight it will help keep your airways a bit clearer. Also on take-off and descent, it is advised for babies to be fed as the swallowing helps clear the ears so try and drink some water out of a bottle to mimic and hopefully it will help.

The boots decongestant with paracetamol is amazing stuff!!

Good luck and hope you have a fab time x

    Hello churchrat

To eliminate the Rudolph nose, use Kleenex Balsam tissues.;) The first time I bought them, I already had a red and very sore nose. I thought the Kleenex Balsam tissues might feel less like sandpaper and so I hoped they wouldn't make my nose any worse.

I was amazed and delighted to find that using the tissues actually erased the redness and soreness (my red nose vanished and the soreness disappeared) and they were like wiping my nose with the softest silk.

I have no connection to the supplier, I'm just a very happy customer.

If you want to save money, you could blow into a cheapy tissue and then wipe your nose with the Kleenex Balsam tissue. That means that the box of KB tissues will last longer.:D

Happy Silver Wedding Anniversary............and happy flying.

    Regards
