Recycaling Paper

I dont like to leave paper out to be recycled, as i dont want any of my details stolen, so my neighbour usually burns the stuff for me and uses it in the garden. Is this a good idea, or would i be better investing in a very good shredder?

I have a small hand operated shredder that I got form a pound shop. I simply remove the small segment of a letter that has my name and address on it and any account no. then recycle the rest.

  • A cross cut shredder is good and it makes it very difficult for anyone to get any detais from the document.

THIS is just an example of what you can get. I got one in Halfords about a year ago for under £25. Most of my shredded paper now goes in the recycle bin or the composter.

Our council said they didn't want shredded paper in the recycling been as the fibres will be too short to be of use to recycled paper manufacturers. I stick any of my shreddings in the compost bin.

I too just shred the little part with my name and address on - it really annoys me when I get mailing with my name plastered all throughout it. The shredded paper then goes into the compost bin.

Whilst I'm here, is it OK to put envelopes in with my paper recycling? I always thought that I had to rip off the gummy bits -is it that true?

I got a shredder yesterday for £17.99 from stationery box. I shred mine then put it in the compost bin in my garden, don't know if our local council will take it, it seems to depend on where you live as to the rules.

I hand shred, then it is the cat's bedding for a week, then
    composted.

I too have a shredder and only thought I'd be able to throw the shredded paper away, but I've recently found out my council will take small amounts of it in the compost bin, so I'm quite pleased!

I have pondering of how to get rid of our enormous pile of shredded paper that the council wouldn't take...I have used most of them for guinea pig bedding, food bin liner....I have done some research as I remenbe having a little paper making kit by using old paper and newspaper. I have made some research and have actually found a kit for £12(inc. p&p). It include the paper making kit and the instructions and suggestions on how to make your homemade recycled paper. I am now on the mission of making my own recyled paper for reuse as a stationary or something to use for card making purposes as you can make the paper thick or thin depending on what you wanted. :p
