I need to buy loft insulation to cover approx 10 sq mts. Where can I buy this cheapest and how much does it cost roughly.
Someone selling surplus on Gumtree at about £10 a triple roll, is this good value?

Depends on type your after. I recently did my roof space using the knauf value insulation from b&q. I think it's normally £9 per triple, but it was recently going for £3 for a triple and people were going mad for it.
I mostly used the value stuff, but also used a few rolls the more expensive space blanket which comes in the foil. I don't think it's worth paying te extra for the space blanket as the value rolls are easy managed and not really that itchy and I think their thermal values are nearly the same.0 -
Does anyone know if any B+q still have this in NI. Checked out Ballymena and Boucher Road last weekend and both were selling for £10/roll0

Is this the insulation you are talking about:

We went to buy this last week, it was advertised (and still is) on line as £3 per roll but in store it was £8 per roll . While reading through the buyers comments on the B&Q website it appears that this insulation is £3 a roll in the rest of the UK and £8 in NI .
I was thinking of reserving it online and seeing what I was charged when I went to the store. I did a dummy run and although I was selecting an NI store for collection it was still coming up at £3.
I just phoned B&Q in BOucher and asked if they had any in stock and how much it was. They said they had loads in stock at £15 per roll , I asked why it was not £3 a roll as stated on the website and she said that the offer was only available on mainland GB and not in NI as the reduction was being sponsored by British Gas and we don't have British Gas here. The best of it is that customers in GB do not have to prove they are British Gas customers to avail of the cheaper price, they get the cheaper price because they live on the mainland
It is bloody scandelous . £15 compaired to £3 a roll is way too much of a difference in my opinion.Jellynose0 -

I know how you feel, I found out by accident that B&Q Sprucefield were selling it at £3 a roll a couple of weeks back and went in to check if they still had stock. They told me they had 20 pallets (18 rolls per pallet) out the back so I came back the next day with a trailer I borrowed and was told they had sold out. In their words "the builders cleared us out". Absolutely furious but what can you do.:(0 -
Yes that's the stuff we got.
Because its quite bulky, I only picked up 3 rolls the first time and now thinking back it was £10 per roll, but I had my old mother with me so were able to get 10% discount.
So needing to buy more to finish the rest I went to Lisburn and it was in fact down to £3 a triple roll, and the fancier space blanket was £5 for a triple roll. People were going mad for it, buying too much to fit in to their cars etc. When I was there, there was only 3 rolls of the value stuff, so also picked up a few of the space blanket rolls whilst it was cheap.
Having used both, I'd just stick with the value rolls- I think their R value is nearly the same anyway. Although it does look spacey in the roofspace with half of it done in the silver foil stuff.
I think it was a mistake that they let it go so cheap- I don't know. Not sure why NI Power don't subsidise them like is done in England etc.0 -

Does anyone have an e-mail address for Martin Lewis or anyone else who is part of his team? I would be interested to see if he/Moneysaving Expert would contact NI Power on behalf of the people her in NI and ask why they don't subsidise this for us. Also would be interested in finding out why NI Water wouldn't think it would be a good idea to help subsidise this either after the almightily mess last winter. You would imagine both could only benefit from a bit of good PR for a change.Jellynose0

There has to be links to contact MSE up in the right hand corner of screen, where the ugly picture is.0
