Sizzix Big Shot

I took the plunge and bought one of these the other week and have been slowly building up my die collection.

I must admit I haven't used it until this evening, I needed a couple of tags doing (little square approx 1" x 1") and a couple of circles. I know the clear pads get marked so wasn't overly worried about them when they came out of the otherside. I have now used a larger die which I'm doing as bag toppers and everyone that I've done has got the imprint of the square tag and circle on it, it's really visible.

Any ideas if this is right? If not what have I done wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, this is annoying isn't it?! My plastic cutting pads are really marked and warped now, in all honesty it actually gets better the more you use it as there are a lot of little scratches that leave more of a criss-cross pattern on your card rather than just one obvious imprint. :)

What I do is use at least good thick paper so any impression doesn't show through and I make sure that the side I want to use/see is facing down on the die so any imprints from the cutting pad are on the back. If I am using something that's going to show the imprint as it's not sturdy enough or if I want both sides to look good I put a piece of card between the paper/card I'm cutting and the cutting pad, just be careful as they can stick together a bit so separate it very gently to avoid tears!

Hope this helps, you'll figure it out as you go along; I wasn't hugely impressed when I first got mine (it's a pretty bad design flaw!) but I love it now that I've worked out how to get the best results from it and I've just used it to cut out about 300 snowflakes for my BIL's wedding stationary! :)

Hi thanks for that I thought the imprints may calm down in time but just wanted to make sure I hadn't done anything wrong.

I think that all die cutting machines leave cuts in the plates - I know my Wizard does and the Cutlebug ones are VERY warped. I just keep rotating them - bit like a bed mattress!!
