Help

I know this technically should probably be in the bank accounts thread but i need some help right away,

HSBC have taken a loan payment from my account without asking me and put it in my loan account

its not a direct debit they have written to say they have transfered funds from my current account to cover my arrears to the amount of £81.95

I cancelled the debit instruction and told them at present i couldnt afford to pay them but would as soon as i started my new job, however as soon as i put some money in to cover some cheques this week - they took it!

I thought they couldnt do this?

  • I think they can, I would try to move to a bank not linked to your creditors.

the T&Cs will almost certainly allow them to offset..that is raid your current account if a loan/CC is in arrears.

you could try phoning them up and explaining this is causing you hardship

depending upon your circumstances, it may be best to open a new account and get your income paid into that instead.
  • if the money in your account was for food heating rent/mortgage ect I am sure they are not allowed to take it. you might wish to pursue that line with them.

you should be able to get a basic a/c although it wont have an overdraft or cheque book.
  • nope cant get any account even without overdraft etc - is it because we just moved ?

if you're not on the electoral roll this can be a real problem..not because of credit checking but because of the anti money laundering laws..so best to go in person and ask tehm and take alternative prove of identity (utility bills , passportetc)
  • that must be it then, Im worried now as my wages will go in tommorow to cover essential bills and they might take that too, have a crappy long day at the office, have a good job now and you try to do the right thing and they all *** on you, what on earth this worlds coming to i dont know.
