Hey there people. I'm considering following the BR route and am wondering whether I should open a basic bank account b4 goin bR or after? As I'm not sure if that account would be closed too? I need an account for my salary, tax credits etc????:o

hi dont know if rules are same in england but i opened a coop cashminder account about 6 months before i went br it wasnt closed after br0

If Co-Op is one of your creditors you probably won't be able to open an account with them. If they are not then it's best to get the account open, up and running before you go BR.
If Barclays is one of your creditors then you will still be able to open an account with them, but not until the day after BR. If they are not a creditors then as with the Co-Op it's best to get up and running before BR.
Whichever account you open, make sure you tell them why you need the account, then mark on your BR forms that this is your day to day account and confirm that to the OR when you speak to them. Once you have gone BR then just ring the bank again to inform them of the date, purely for their records.When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
