Orange default has disappeared from all 3 CRA reports

Looking for some advice on the following:
I have had 2 defaults on my credit files, one being a NatWest overdraft which I am actively disputing and one an defaulted mobile account with Orange which was added to my account in January 2009.
On Equifax I have received an alert dated 20/10/11 stating Deleted Linked address (address which the above Orange account was taken out at) and a second alert stating credit agreement Deleted and referring to the Everything Everywhere (Orange account)
When I look at my full report in Equifax and drill down into credit agreements the above Orange account does not appear under Current or Previous addresses.
If I scroll further down however it appears still under 'Linked Addresses'
In Credit Expert there has never been any reference to this account, fair enough they may not report to this agency.
Within CheckMyFile there is no mention of the Orange account where there once was on the Callcredit or Equifax accounts they list.
However... today I have received a letter from CapQuest Debt Recovery stating the Orange account has been sold to them and within the letter it states the following;
"A default has been registered on your credit file for non payment of this account. The default will remain on your credit file for six years from the date of the default, which you may find results in simple lines of credit being refused
Agreeing and maintaining a suitable payment plan, will assist in repairing your credit file and show your account with a paying status"
Does this mean they will now place a new default on my account under CapQuest's name, from the current or future date?
If so is this legal, surely the initial default with Orange and the date it occurred should be the only thing on my account. No contact has been made with Orange since January 2010 and I have not responded to any letters from the previous debt collections agencies.
Or has this now dropped from my credit files, fortunately through lack of follow through from Orange or just luck?
I'm not on any electoral roll and have not been for almost 2 years whilst at my current address.
Should I continue to ignore the current letter from CapQuest or contact them and pay in full since there is no default on my account?
My main concern is now the default is gone, how can I keep it from coming back?

Yes it does often happen when an account is sold, the creditor removes their entry and the DCA puts a new one on. It must appear as the original default date, the same one that orange used. If it doesn't and they give it a new /current date - then you need to dispute it and insist that they correct it to the old date. If you have any copies of your credit file showing the old orange default keep hold of them as they can make it easier to prove the correct date and get it corrected.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

Am I best to sit tight an see if nothing does get re-added or contact them and ask them not to add the a default if a full payment is made (obviously getting this in writing first)
Failing that I may as well sit tight for another 3 years and it's gone altogether.0 -
Orange do report account information to Experian.0
