Heya,
So, I've got a new username and a new lease on life.
Three years ago I...
*Had to leave London and move back home with my dad I was that broke
*Owed about £9,000 on my credit card and overdraft that was stuck in a debt spiral
*Owed Southwark Council about £500 of Council Tax due to a dodgy landlord/ex flatmates
*Was unemployed
*Smoked 20/30 a day
Today I now have...
*A full time job that pays really well
*I own my own house (With my partner) with a mortgage on a good rate
*Credit card is cleared (thanks to PPI claim back of nearly £3,500 and a loan from partner's mum that is interest free and almost paid off)
*Have an overdraft of £100 I use only for emergencies
*Had the council tax charge waived and ended up with a credit of £40
*Gave up smoking and have now saved (according to my NHS app) around £700 odd without the extra bits I would have spent when at the shop.
Obviously I couldn't have done some of these things without my wonderful fiance who is the most savvy money saver ever.
I'm taking a leaf out of his book and am looking to repair my credit rating with a tiny credit card (which is set up to be paid off in full each month), envelope budgeting (Though it makes it hard when the cashpoint chucked out a load of £20s instead of £10s, doh!) and generally stashing money away (£200 pcm, drip feed into an account at 4% interest).
Today is two days after pay day and all my bills are paid, I have my train ticket money withdrawn for the month, my grocery money for the month and my "pocket money" for the month.
Still have to get my fiance a birthday present but am sticking to budget successfully.
Going to the cinema tonight and had some free tickets for the VUE however friends have decided we're going to the 3D showing at the Odeon which means it's about £10.85. Really want to go and can afford it but leaves me short of cash for the rest of the week. Tried to drum up cash and vouchers but to no luck.
They also want to go for a meal first when I've already made dinner when I get in. They are providing me with a lift though. Argh such a pain!
