Buying a house?

Hi,
In the summer of 2005 I went bankrupt, my wife did not. We have always rented. Shortly after this, I managed to get a freelance job on top of my normal job. The timing of this was very bad because I would never have gone bankrupt if I had known that this job was just around the corner. Now I am debt free and am earning basically an extra wage per year. The thing I need to know is, have I ruined any chance of getting a mortgage? I have heard about these 5 X salary mortgages and about the extra interest for bankrupts such as myself. Is there a way out? Regards, Jason.
