How often do people get rotas?

I've been in a new job nearly 2 months now, and are constantly having to chase the rota (we generally get it 4-5 days in advanced, but its constantly changing).

So was wondering how frequent do people get their rotas and how far in advanced do you get them? (in any job, i'm just intregued as i've had a lot of jobs but never had to wait as long before really)

When I used to work at a supermaket it was in our contract that our hours would be posted on a rota 2 weeks before hand. If they were not then the employer could not make us do the overtime that was in our contract. They werent always up on the board 2 weeks before but this worked out well for me as I didnt want to do any over time. Our manager was just too lazy to get them done on time, even though most people actually worked pretty much the same hours each week.

I'm busy doing my employee's December rota so that people can organise cover for their children's nativitys etc.

I can't imagine doing them just days before, seems very unorgnised.

I worked in a pub for about 9 months once and they were forever doing the rota only a couple of days before. Very annoying because it didn't allow us to plan our lives, we were told that if we had any special requests we should log it in the diary and then when the rotas were done they were supposed to check the diary....they often didn't though.

I would suggest talking to your colleagues to find out if this is usual...

Well I was given my current rota the first day i started which takes me up to 20th Nov, the next one is also out which takes us to 18th Dec. Our next rota is due out shortly, basically we'll have 8 weeks of shifts & get the next one once we are down to 4 weeks. We also get to request 3 shifts each month, we work 12.5 hr days, 3-4 shifts a week.

we tend to have 4 weeks at a time, they come out the weekor so before the 4 weeks end (so the most we have is 5-6 weeks, the least is a week)

I generally do them for 2 weeks in advance. This is partly as it is hard to predict sales volume much more in advance and also if rotas are generated too far in advance staff keep wanting to swap shifts. I'm sure different things work for different companies though.
