Chartered Engineer subscriptions

Wasn't sure where to post this but here goes:
Every year I pay out for Royal Aeronuautical Society membership which I joined for the purposes of establishing Chartered engineer status. Just £28 of this subscription goes to the Engineering Council for the maintenance of chartered engineer status - the remainder to the RAeS, effectively for a monthly magazine and a diary.
Whilst I do get some tax relief for this professional subscription does anyone else maintain CEng status more efficiently? ie different organisation or paying Eng council directly?

Hello chipfire
You don't tell us the total amount of subscription you are currently paying, so it's difficult for anyone to compare the fee of a different society or institute.;)
Assuming you are employed, have you approached your employer to ask if they will pay the fee?

You can't join the Eng Council, & thus get professional registration, directly, you have to go through a professional body.
The IMechE are about £50 cheaper - depends whether they'll let you in & if you need RAeS in your post nominals for the career you're in.

Of course you could just get yourself a white van & a set of spanners and call yourself an engineer. It's not like the Eng Council will do anything about it - unlike every other professional body
