I'm almost embarrassed
to post here, because it's not 'techie' in the true sense but I don't know where else to look for help.
Yesterday I had a run in with a permanent marker pen - couldn't get the lid off, the bottom came off instead and red ink squirted all over the place - and I now have a red dot in the middle of my screen.
I haven't tried to remove it yet, I didn't dare, but I was hoping some genius on here would have an idea, please.
Thanks for reading.

Couple of sites go with this, the thing to avoid is pressing too hard
Create a gentle cleaning solution. The ideal solution is plain distilled water. If more heavy cleaning is needed a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water can also be effective.

This uses alcohol, what an waste, though take note of the warning

Thanks everso much Santer, I'll get on to it. Much appreciated! (that was the best I could offer in replacement alcohol)0

If Santer's suggestion doesn't shift the ink you can also try filling a small bowl with luke warm water and a dash of orange oil. Take a microfibre cloth and moisten it in the mix before giving the ink some gentle wiping to get rid of it. Once you've done give the screen another wipe over with luke warm water mixed with washing up liquid to remove any smearing. Orange oil should shift the ink but don't put it directly on the screen or leave it to settle on the screen as it can "rainbow" under lights. Just a quick wipe over the ink, wipe off and repeat as needed.0

Consult the customer services department at the pen manufacturer, and see what they recommend as a solvent for their ink.........?0

In an ideal world, you would use the same solvent as the pen is based on. In reality, this is likely to be ethanol these days so you want some surgical spirit.
Use a cotton wool ball. Wet it with the solvent and dab (don't press too hard) the stain.
Repeat until clean.
EDIT: Whatever you do, DON.T use acetone (nail varnish remover). It'll get rid of the stain OK, but it's liable to mark the LCD.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0
