Dont have kids because you want to buy a home? Is that how bad its become now?!!! :rotfl:

    In a word...Yes.

I like to think I'm a fairly normal 20 something.

I quite liked the idea of getting a house. So I did that. Then a little later I fancied getting married - so I did that too. In a couple of years I'm sure I'll fancy getting hold of a couple of sprogs, so I'll see if I can afford it and if so I'll do that.

People have to prioritise things in life. You can't have everything all at once.

Do you say the same of those under threat from repossession? Or are the above only trotted out when talking about house purchases?

I should imagine anyone who owns, those are their first thoughts. It would have happened to anyone repossesed!

If you don't have the money to finance your purchase you risk repo?

    What a bizzare question?

Have you guys ever been to Redruth. It`s `orribe, run down and scruffy not unlike it`s sister town Camborne.

Needs must when the Devil vomits into yer kettle.

Nottinghill and many parts of London were shabby when all those trendy 80's rockers lived there. Redruth is shabby, but FTB's and others have always lived in shabby places - you shoulda seen Coventry in 1981.

I had mates who could only afford Willesden Green in London in the early 90's, a right hole back then but they didn't moan about not being able to afford a leafy subburb.

TBF the first house we purchased was never purchased on the idea of instant family.

If you are thinking instant family you would purchase to accomodate that would you not?

We moved a year after our first child was borne, I presume many others have done similar.

    When did I say that?

Unless you have massive entitlement issues one can't expect to have everything - sacrifices must me made and all that.

I think that is a good point the influx of young into an area creates growth and improvement. Areas then get more desirable.

A lot of people will base their choice or timing on having children on a number of factors - career, finances, buying a house etc. etc. I think that's always been the case, but maybe it's more of an issue with current high prices.

I think a lot of today's couples wouldn't think it that odd to postpone having children until their early thirties in order to get started on a career, go to uni maybe go travelling, then buy a house and settle down. That never used to be the case.
