Ive posted before about opening a new account and got some good advice. Went to A&L mid November filled in forms, photcopied all id, got "professional" to sign it sent it off...nothing. went into branch just after Christmas to be told they havent recieved my application. Repeated whole process and 3 weeks later still havent heard. Has it taken, this long for anyone else? Im really worried as last month I had to get work to pay me by cheque and so that I could pay my DMP ( my first one!) on time I had to get cheque cashed by a money place it cost me £65 to do that and I just cant afford to do it again but of course I have to pay my DMP on 1st feb. Could I apply for a different account and get it in time or will i be turned down as Im applying at A&L?

I got a co-op account opened very quickly via the phone over Christmas I would check out their web site and call them0

NatWest Step account - I applied on-line, needed no documents or anything, and it took about a week for them to send me all the stuff (if I remember correctly the account number/sort code came before that so I could let work know where to send my wages).
I know the Co-Op also do a good basic account, but I couldn't apply on-line and like you I was in a hurry!
P.S. I've posted this so many times, I should be on commission from NatWest!!Proud to be dealing with my debts:dance:

IOMH - did you not have to provide Natwest with any form of id? Thought that this was a necessity for Money Laundering legislation?
I managed to open a Bank of Scotland account the same day. Made an appointment at the branch, turned up with my id, opened the account. Got my account number/sort code that day so that I could make arrangements for my salary to go into the new account that month. Got card through the post a week or so later. No hastle!0 -
HHH a+l HAVE A HUGE BACKLOG OF people opening thier basic account, I like you applied midnovember as needed it for wages to go into, after makng several calls early december to them and being told of the six week backlog I got fed up and went to halifax. Again you have to send off for the account but it was open and running and card and pin issued within two weeks. As for a+l I just noticed they ran an identity check through my credit file yesterday so I guess things are moving. But I wont use the account now, I needed it months ago. Try halifax and ive heard co-op are good too.0

Thanks for your replies, can you tell me how I check my credit file to see if A&L have looked at it?0
