declutter for charity!

Was just emailing this to friends when it occurred to me some Old Stylers might find it interesting too - extra motivation to declutter when you know it's going to help someone else. But hurry - these are only till end of January.
Also, thought some other Moneysavers might be able to suggest some more specific uses for decluttered items other than the generic 'down the charity shop/freecycle'?
Hope you don't mind me sending you these - I came across these and thought they would be good ways to reduce clutter (books, old shoes) whilst giving to charity - both finish end of January, so still time to do. Basically you give unwanted kids books to ELC stores or old shoes to Clarks or Mothercare World.

http://www.shoebizappeal.org.uk/getinvolved.aspx - Blue Peter Appeal - while since I've taken part in one of those! - going to help Aids orphans etc in Malawi
Oh, and you can recycle your used xmas cards at Tesco's, WHSmith or TK Maxx - but you probably knew that...
Off to get decluttering....

Excellent idea. Will try to copy link to flylady link as I know lots and lots of decluttering going on there.
Thanks0 -
great idea. something else you could do is give any excess towels, bedding (usually only single), food (in date) or toiletries to your local homeless shelter. they are usually really grateful. if you don't know where there is one try asking someone at your local church or citizens advice.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

Really good idea - I never know what to do with extra toiletries or food items that were bought in error and clearly not going to get eaten - it would be great to feel they were going somewhere where they could be used.0

What about doing same thing with any old furniture you wanna get rid of - in my area they have a second-hand furniture scheme for anyone getting a new flat who can't afford much or have got a grant from local authority. They will usually collect as well if you ring them up tell them what you want to get rid of and they can arrange a time to fetch it. They help allsorts- people from children's homes (usually get kicked out on 16th birthday!), homeless people coming out of shelters or stuck in temporary accommodation like B&Bs, ex-offenders with nowhere to go, asylum seekers, etc. Some people might not like some of these groups but better to have them housed decently than begging on the streets!!!!You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:
