NIE payments at paypoint warning for 19/10/2011

A bit long winded but here goes.
My dad got a reminder letter from NIE for non payment of his electric bill. I had the receipt stating that the bill had been paid at a PAYPOINT on 19/10/11. Phoned NIE and got the autovoice service and confirmed bill was outstanding. Went down to the shop where bill had been paid and was told they could do nothing and to ring NIE again.
I again rang NIE to speak to a human. Rather cheeky lady told me that no payment had been made, told her "but i have the receipt here" sorry we have had no payment nothing to do with us go back to the shop.
I was rather cross by this stage because my dad was getting upset by it all, hes nearly 80, he was blaming my daugther as she had paid the bill.
Stuff this i thought, so i phoned The Consumer Council. The very nice lady Mary took all the details and told me she would sort it and not to worry.
A hour or so later nice lady from NIE phoned me back to say that All PAYPOINT payments on the 19/10/11 where not recieved by NIE because of a problem with a corrupt file between Paypoint and NIE and that they were aware of it and i should have been told this when i had phoned the first time. Said she would sort it. So hopefully this will be it sorted out but dad will still be in a tizz until the letter drops through the door to say the bill is clear.
All this fuss could have been avoided if NIE had have told me what had happened from the start. Anyone who has paid any money to NIE on that date by PayPoint please be aware of whats going on, because i am sure some people could just think they had forgot to pay their NIE bill and pay again.
Thank you Mary from THE Consumer Council.:T
