I am totally confused. I have just tried to make a lump sum overpayment of £5000 on my mortgage using my credit card, only to be told by the customer services I am unable to do so, as they say it is transfering one debt to another. ( I have the money in an acccount but would prefer to keep it there for an extra 56 days).
Can they refuse this ? Any advice would be gratefully received
P.S.
They allowed me to pay off exactly the same amount in 2005 using a credit card.

Yes they can.
Just because they did it once does not mean they will do it again. Specially not with the FSA breathing down every lenders neck.0 -
Thank you for your reply. It is much appreciated because
I have an interest only loan with endowments that are predicted to shortfall and since deciding to make overpayments have had difficulty getting information on doing this from the mortgage company as it varies each time I call them. Sorry to have been so dull0
