Confirmation from venue?

We just recently booked our venue and paid the deposit on the 23rd October. What kind of confirmation should we have from them? Should we get a contract? They said they would put it all in the post but we haven't received anything yet so I just thought I'd check what we should be expecting before I chase them up.

  • It seems that every venue has a different policy on this, as this question has been asked before.

I would ask for the very least a receipt of the deposit. A written letter/email of what you still owe, and exactly what you're paying for.

We had a formal contract that had cancellation info, how many day/evening guests, how much extra guests would cost etc etc

Thank you, I've called them and they say we should have it in the post, so I'll see what I get when it finally arrives.
Just called to book the registrar also and we can only get 12.30 for the ceremony:( We really wanted 2 or 3pm as there is only 20 of us to the day part so I think we'll be waiting around a lot.
  • We booked a little family run restaurant for our reception and we got a confirmation of paying £750 deposit (we had the till receipt too) then we had a letter listing what's included in our package and then a calculation of the quote he gave us - 70 adults at x amount plus 30 evening guests at x amounts and the total. So we know that based on numbers we gave him we know exactly how much the reception, give or take a few people along the way.

Without wanting to spoil your excitement can I please please advise you to get some wedding insurance. I know it's boring but believe me I wished I'd gotten around to doing it!

I do so hate to be the voice of doom though!
