Another vote for Canterbury Travel. We did a 5 day trip.

All inclusive food/kit etc, fantastic daytime activities - sledging/skidoo-ing, husky sledding, reindeer sleighs etc.

You can also purchase extra trips when there (if you want) we went mushing with huskies one evening. Quite surreal swooshing over the snow :D

Also the meeting Santa is VERY well handled. One family at a time in santa's cabin. They'll take photo's & also you can take your own.

We stayed in a hotel which had a pool, rather relaxing...

PLUS - we saw the Northern Lights appear briefly!

A truly magical christmas for kids of all ages...;)

  • Hey Dark Star...thanks for the reply - was your trip very expensive?

I guess the other option is to find somewhere else that does something similar....? No idea where to start though - does anyone know if there is somewhere in the UK that would do some kind of grotto to take kids? I guess there is a London based hotel with a trip to Hamelys this year and then reconsider FInland next year :( but suggestions gratefully received!! xx

Our trip was about 5 years ago & was (I think) about £1400 for 3 adults totally inclusive of hotel/food/flights/transfers/activities/outdoor clothing...

All we had to do was turn up & wear normal warm clothes & bring anything that would be next to the skin i.e. gloves/hat/scarf...

I do recall dinner on the first evening was caribou stew!! Yummy..

hey grumpybum - snow is not good so far in lapland so if you are planning on going this dec then go as late as you can and as far north as you can

I would say, if you want to do it on the cheap then do try to go in jan instead as it is miles cheaper and you should be able to get some deals too - check out inghams and crystalski as they tend to be the cheapest option and I would also suggest that you go for as long as possible

do check out the lapland forum on tripadvisor too as there is loads of info on there
