    yes that was the program.

The number of sandwiches does depend on the type of job and the hours worked.
My dh is working 12 hours a day and lately 7 days a week so I have managed to persuade him to take 3 or four rolls instead of his usual 2 because I felt he was not eating enough. He has a very heavy job. If he worked in an office two would be fine.

I brought sultanas in Aldi this week - think I paid 79p for a packet. I use them in baking.

3 for 2 in Mr T's at the moment.

Beccatje is in the Netherlands so is unlikely to have a Mr.T

"Peasant" food can be popular with kids because they think it is "cool" to eat food from other countries. Think Mexican or Spanish, lots of veg and spices.

Also Beccatje do your family like pea and ham soup or other old fashioned recipes?

DGD is a sultana monster and loves to have a bowl of cherry toms and sultanas when I pick her up from school, I am having to cut back on this as the price of sultanas is just silly.

My OH eats handfuls of raisins all the time - he used to buy the little Sun Maid boxes but now we get 2kg from Costco for £6.99 (they used to be £4.99 :( ). Anyway, still cheaper than buying them from the supermarket!

They might have deals on sultanas as well.

Tesco Californian seedless raisins are £1.38 for 500g, which is £5.52 for 2Kg.

The 1Kg bags are £1.98, so £3.96 for 2 Kg.

As I said before all dried fruit is on offer in Tesco at the moment on 3 for the price of 2. Offer is still on at the moment. I have stocked up.

We tried Tesco and Asda's raisins at one point but my OH said they tasted "greasy" compared to the Sunmaid ones!

Six sandwiches - is that six slices of bread? My husband has two slices of bread at lunchtime with a piece of fruit.

yes, 6 slices of bread. he doubles them up to make sandwiches. As he doesn't eat breakfast, he pretty much needs that amount to make it through the day.
I can't make him go hungry surely. ;) And fruit is more expensive than bread..and he doesn't like fruit a lot.. it's not the bread that's the problem.. it's what goes on!. ;)

My family does pretty much eat whatever I cook.. compared to some kids, I'm counting my lucky stars. I think I have just spoiled them over the years with lots of meat dishes and elaborate food. And I am also used to cooking quite elaborately. I'm trying to get educated on cooking simpler meals with less meat and/or cheaper cuts and that's where the complaining comes in. They will eat it.. like the liver.. it did get eaten, but I did get some moans, so I'm afraid to serve them liver again now. ;)

I did bake a lot at some point and they love whatever I bake.. that gets eaten possibly even faster than store bought biscuits :rotfl:
Somehow I just get busy and forget the baking stuff as it's such a faff at times.

Your English dishes all sound SOO nice though! But halve the time I have no idea what they are!. What the heck is toad in the hole?.. it sounds fun.. and if I make it, I'll have to give it a dutch name.. I don't think they'll want to try a dish that is litterally called: kikker in een gat.
(toad in a hole) I can just about hear my 7 year old asking if we are really having a frog for dinner! :rotfl:

Thanks for the great tips about the beans. Will deffo try that.
Soup is not a favorite here but they will accept it for dinner once in a while.
