Self Employment

Hi,

I’m in the process of being made redundant in my job. I really want to start to work from home, to be self employed. The problem is I have no idea of what direction to go. My hobbies are the usual type, shopping going out with friends etc. so nothing special! I need ideas of what to do; I’m willing to try my hand at anything. I cannot drive yet! But willing to walk.

I have thought about buying in bulk and selling on ebay, has anyone tried this and is it worth trying? I will be working part time, so I just need a to make about £300 a month.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try?

Thanks for any info folks! J

  • hi whats a credit card agent?
    Make £11,000 in 2011 / ebay £600
  • Given they are based in the USA their post really is spam. A credit card agent is someone who does home visits trying to get people to sign up to a credit card. They get paid a referral fee either for each applicant or per successful applicant. Given the FSA regulations I do not believe we have similar here and the closest would be being a door step lender.

You certainly can buy in bulk and sell on eBay, that is what every business on eBay is doing and they certainly arent all making losses. The challenge is finding the products with sufficient demand and margin to make it worth while. You will ultimately probably be up against companies with bigger buying power than you who can therefore negotiate lower prices but if you find an unexploited niche or are fortunate to get an exceptional deal then its certainly doable.

Generally start a small and sell a few of what you're thinking of to test the market, you will possibly/probably make a loss because of not buying stock in bulk but you can then do your calculations on if buying 10,000 of the item is worth it or not.
