  • In which case astaroth I totally fail to understand your point of view with regard to someone in financial difficulties. If I have offended you then I apologise

    Apology accepted

I dont really want to take the thread any further off topic than it already is and certainly dont want the OP to think any of my comments are aimed at them...

    1) Peoples attitude to their financial difficulties can vary greatly and as with everything in life you deal with people, to some degree at least, based on your perception of their attitude... eg you saying "I can only assume you do not come from this planet and have no real experience of financial hardship"

    2) There was a 2 but I left my tin hat in the office so probably safest not to put it down.

I am sure if the OP had put up a different thread like a statement of affairs in the money saving page they would have got a very different response both from me and from others than this post.

PS. wouldnt recommend the tesco value pasta diet to anyone :D

  • Trust me bank jobs are not safe - I have just been through a major re-structure. Luckily I escaped redundancy but have been displaced - not a very good time. I still have cover though cause you never know

We are setting up a debt management plan with Payplan.

Out of all our debtors, Halifax are by far the worst for harrasment.
At least 5 calls a day, even though they know the time she is at home.
An offer of payment wont stop the calls, they only stop if a payment is made!
I mean its ridiculous. If you cant make the payment, why is a phone call going to change anything.

    1. Write a formal letter of complaint to Halifax Head Office. make sure you send it Recorded Delivery. State steps you have already taken (as above) to pay your debt. Tell them you want the harassment by telephone, and the calls by 'Representatives' to stop forthwith. Give them written authority to talk direct to PayPlan, with your PayPlan Client number.
    2. Do NOT send them extra payments above and beyond your Debt Management Plan. PayPlan have/will decide what you can afford.
    3. If you do not get a satisfactory reply, telephone the Financial Ombudsman 0845 080 1800 and make a complaint.
    4. Start keeping a log of all their phone calls, date, time, name of caller, reason, etc., also a log of any doorstep calls.
    5. Contact the Trading Standards Department in your area, they will probably ask you to do # 4 also.

It seems all Banks use the same nasty tactics, trying to frighten, threatening etc., It is hard to deal with, I know from first hand experience, my previous Bank lie through their teeth, even to their own solicitors, claiming they had not received any payments. (I have 2 and 1/2 years worth of their own statements showing the payments made!) Try not to let them get to you, easier said than done. Though they have a right to be repaid, they do NOT have the right to threaten, or frighten people into paying what they can no longer afford. Possibly driving some to suicide. Get angry and fight back.

What if you don't have the money to pay them?

I think for you to suggest that the OP accepts the harrassment is wrong, I have personal experience with the Halifax and for a period of about 12 weeks last year I was receiving upto 75 calls PER DAY, it was only following correspondence from my solicitor did they stop the calls.

Just because you owe them money it does NOT give them the right to break the law.

    HERE HERE , i agree

I was late this month with my credit card payment ( waiting on money coming in so I knew I would be late ), they rang ( yes good old halifax ) at 9.30pm last night and my husband did ask him , " do you realise the time". He said " He got a job to do ".
:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling
