from bad to good cr

when i was t uni i defaulted on a few loans with vodafone and the bank. as ive never been to court abd they are statutory barred now they shouldnt affect my credit rating. atm i have a contract phone and would like to have a v good cr in few years time. any tips and would this be possible

    Wait 6 years from the date of the last default / ccj
    Once they are off, it will only show your good accounts, such as your phone
    I too used swipe ... slowly

    Worth getting copies of your credit files so you can see what is actually on there - and check that its correct. Its not that uncommon for debt collectors to register a default later than the original creditor did (if they have you can challenge it to get it corrected) and so could be still affecting your credit files.

    Once you've checked your files then consider a subprime card and use it for one or 2 items a month and pay off in full each statement. This will demonstrate you can handle credit and if you pay off in full you won't pay interest.

    Once you have say a year of history of using your card and paying it promptly you should then be able to get more mainstream credit products.
