Sloe gin takes about 2yrs to mature to be really nice.
How about Whiskey Ginger this takes about 6 weeks to do. 1 inch root ginger shredded, 1/2 oz juniper berries (optional), 1 pint whiskey. Mix, then strain in 5-6 weeks time. I sometimes add sugar at this stage depends on what you like. Tastes like whiskey mac.
Or, raisins in rum, looks good in small fancy jars, just fill jar with raisins, top up with white rum and leave. Ready in about 3-4 weeks and great on ice-cream. No sugar needed as the raisins are sweet enough.
One of my favourites is plums in rum but it takes about 3 months to do. Use the red skinned plums thinly sliced, 6oz white sugar to each pound of plums, cover with white rum, just shake every day until the sugar has dissolved then leave. The rum mellows and goes a fabulous colour, a rich pink and the fruit is delicious, again looks good in small jars.
The good thing about making your own 'liqueurs' is that you needn't use expensive named branded alcohol, supermarket own brand or even value lines will suffice.

Funny you should say that - I was thinking about it yesterday and decided to package the gin next year or the year after, depending upon how it matures. Thanks for all the suggestions, particularly the whiskey ginger and raisins in rum; they sound luuuurvely! Might have to write down the plums in rum as well for next year, om nom! Couple of dumb questions about the juniper berries... are they dried or fresh? And where do you source them?

frodobaggins - really sorry to hear about your pooch, it is always awful. Hope you're doing ok.

Righty ho, will be back on later to announce whether today has been spendy or not... Planning on a NSD, and see no reason I should be tripped up!

    Hi all,
I'm pleased to say that I've finally got my NSD No 1 today. That is despite both me and DH having our hair cut as DD used to be a hairdresser years ago.
I hope everyone is feeling a bit better today. Hugs to all who need one.
