Printing an image and getting it onto glass/a vase

Hi, I would love to make some personalised vases for people but im no good at painting! I found one thing you could print and then stick onto a vase but it looked like any old sticker and like it would come off as soon as it came into contact with water! Also thinking of frosting the glass when the image is on (if its possible to get an image on in the first place!), Is it easy to do/control/cheap to buy?

Thank you for any advice :xmastree::rudolf:

  • Ebay? I've seen it done where I live, but never enquired about price or anything.

Know what you mean about personalising things. I created some mini (coin) purses for my mum and sister, just liked the idea of it being something I had thought of rathering than just buying something.

I do glass painting and I can't draw or even copy frre-hand. I did a gorgeous vase for my Mum a few years ago that has roses and leaves all round it. I printed off the image and stuck it inside the vase, then used the outliner and glass paints on the outside.

You do need to make sure you go over the outliner with the paints to make it more waterproof or I think you can buy a waterproofing wash. Or, as I did, warn people not to wet the outside too much...
  • i've done frosting, engraving & painting
and engraving gives by far the best results

the frosting you use a paste and results are hit and miss and easy to get a patchy result
painting is lovely but not as durable as engraving
and its way easier than you imagine
(the diamond tips you can buy from dentist suppliers way cheaper than an egraving place)
get your image, scale down or up to the size of your piece, tape inside, and away you go

you can get a hand held engraved for under £30, with tips
i got glass coasters from Ikea, like 20p each at the time, and practised on them
then my 1st make was doing place names for the christmas table with ivy around the name (so they could use them after christmas)
  • I've been using Marabu Porcelain & glass paint pens with my daughter. They also do the paints in little jars too. I got them off ebay, to decorate mugs & plates for christmas, the newer porcelain paint pens are dishwasher safe too but the older ones & glass ones are just washable. I found a demonstration video somewhere where they used the products - will have a look later if you like. The pens are so easy to use, just like felt tips & if you put the template on the inside you could always just trace it or use masking tape for stripes etc. I was so impressed with the pens, they aren't cheap but the mugs & plates look fab & they were just the dirt cheap ones. Next present is a vase using the pens for my sil. The pens can be used on both glass & porcelain but i think it's the glass ones that have a more see through effect iykwim. Hope this helps.
