Hi all
So here is my story. Iam a single mother of a three year old. I work full time and earn £14,000 a year, i get all the help i am entitled to , maintanance , tax credits ect. However the last few months i have really really struggled financially. The child care element of tax credits being reduced just crippled me as i was only hanging on by a thread before. I struggled on but then realised when i was using money given to me for my birthday to buy food, gas and petrol, and not eating all day just to save money that i couldnt go on like this. So i went to the citezens advice who were so helpfull. The had me do a budget plan and in a nutshell my outgoings were more than my incomings. They worked out what my priority debts were rent , council tax ect and non priority (loan , crdit card , overdrsft) after doing the budget plan i have nothing to give my creditors so ive been told to make a offer of a £1a month. What i would like to know is has anyone done this before and what is the outcome going to be? The citizens advice told me that Halifax cant do anything about it but i am terrified im going to have baliffs coming to my door or court letters. ANy help or reassurance would be appreciated

Hi and welcome to DFW, if you do it properly you will get your creditors to back off, they can't have what you don't have. Post up your Statement of affairs and use the guides for more information of how to make your offers, start by reading the stickies and keep posting there are some wonderful people on here who know exactly what you are going through;)0

To be honest they might not like it but thankfully we live in a civilised society where people are allowed to feed and clothes themselves before debt repayments. If they are unsecured they can throw their toys out of the pram all they like but if you can't afford any more then you can't afford any more. Yes they may threaten this that and the other but they still can't get blood out of a stone. If they want to they may take you to court where a judge will look at your circumstances and order you to pay what you can afford (which is likely to be 1 pound per month if that's all you can afford).
Please don't worry. If the CAB has said that is your best route then it is likely that it is.
