What are the main difference between GCSE and IGCSE? Do employers value IGCSE below GCSE?

Hi Matt,
The main difference between the two is that the IGCSE is predominantly exam based, whereas the GCSE will usually include coursework.
It is usually offered by independent schools or English schools located abroad. In many organisations (eg the Forces), they are the preferred exam as many people are unable to do the coursework since they can't always attend formal colleges or classes.
The grades of the IGCSE are the same for the GCSE, many are accredited by Ofqual (under the title Cambridge IGCSEs - don't know which subjects though) and count towards the points required for University admission.
I can't see why employers wouldn't recognise them - I'm unaware of any that actually know the difference.
Edited to add a Q&A link from the BBC, and a link to Ofqual:

Hope this helps0
