Vodafone chasing me for money not due

I had the same letter from Vodafone today (19 August) even though I cancelled my mobile data account and £15 per month direct debit with them in April. Then I was told by their local store that I needed to cancel in writing via their website so that is what I did.

Since then I have still been getting monthly invoices so I have corresponded with them repeatedly in email explaining the situation but all I get is standard replies from their Indian center saying the account was cancelled on 24 July and I must pay £42.51. I do not recognise this date so it must be the date they chose to stop the service having not acted on my earlier request and in the absence of payment. I has not helped me to point out that the service has not been used since March.

Now they are making threats and I have to get drawn into correspondence because they did not act on my cancellation request and could not manage it in-store.

What a terrible customer service.

So that I can take a look into what has happened, can you drop me an email to the address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject and include a link to this thread.
