  • I think there are two separate issues here:

    1) Will the OP have any problems with their current employer? No, I don't think so for two reasons - a) employers don't generally listen to gossip about people and really won't be interested in a nearly 3 year old story from a newbie about an established employee. b) the OP was not asked about any disciplinary actions so did not lie during the application process.

    2) Will the OP have any problems with the new employee and other staff? Possibly. If the new person comes in and starts telling everyone about it, it needs handling by the OP. How best to do that, I'm not sure, as I'm rubbish at office politics. But do you really think they will gossip? Most people just want to keep their head down and make a good impression at a new job - spreading rumours about someone already there who is presumably liked and respected, is not a way to achieve that. If, however, it is someone you know has a gob the size of the Blackwall tunnel, then you need to have a plan. Are you going to rise above it, ignore it, and refuse to comment? or just say something like: yes, we did work together before, she was always telling stories there as well'? Or tell everyone the real story yourself? I shouldn't panic too much though - they might not even remember anything about it.

But a note for the future; if you resign during an investigation it is seen by most people as an admission of guilt. After all, if you'd done nothing wrong, you wouldn't have to leave. If something like this happens again wait until you have cleared your name before leaving!
