Typing from home

I'm quite a fast typist and I can also do audio typing. I was just wondering if it's feesable to start a typing service. I work as an administrator for a charity so I have contacts with local businesses and the local MP, ex MPs and the mayor. I'm very highly regarded in local circles. I'm blowing my own trumpet a bit but everyone looks up to me like I'm great which can sometimes be a bit scary because there are times when I'm not. So do you think it would be a good idea? Where would be the best place to advertise and how much could I charge?

If you're an audio typist, you should brush up on your spelling first - it's "feasible" not "feesable".
Is your local MP, all those former MPs and the mayor likely to give you any work or know anyone who would give you work, and if so how much? If you have all these business contacts, have you asked them if they could put any work your way. This would at least give you an idea if outsourced typing is in demand.
Look in your local paper adverts/Yellow Pages/online and see if there are any local typing services. Ring them, pretending to be a potential customer, get an idea of their charges and how busy they are. "We can do it this afternoon" implies there's little work for them to do, so no room for competition unless you intended to go in, undercut them and take all their business.
I worked for a government agency which nationwide employed probably over 1000 typists. About 15 or so years ago they were all redeployed, everyone in their agency had their own computer complete with a Word package and those who needed letters typing had to type their own. Is this what has happened in the private sector? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
