online loan app referred?

Hi there
I have just applied for a loan with my bank. It is always showing as one of my offers when I log on to my account (loan offers) and I also received a letter from them in the post offering me one today.
However, when I have applied (bearing in mind I didn't have to go thru a full app due to them having my details already) and all I had to do was get a quote which incidentally was the best rate they offer, when I clicked apply it said your application has been referred as we need to discuss a few things with you, please call this number.....

Does this mean its going to be declined? Has anyone had any similar experiences? I bank with the Halifax. BTW I put in the reason as 'other' why I wanted the loan as debt consolidation didn't appear as an option, do u think it could be the case they want to check why I want the loan?

Thanks in advance guys

they may think you are struggling, so want togo through an i&e form I guess. Suppose just to be responsable
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Its most likely the system has done a check with credit reference agencys to check against internal records and now they need more details to judge the application (high debt to income ratio?)

I think it will be "other".

They need to ensure your purpose of loan fits with their lending criteria.

They probably have a higher arrears rate for loans made that are used for "Other - Ladyboys" or something.

Halifax has two different types of offers, guaranteed, and an amount should be shown, and possible where a credit search is done.

If yours was a possible offer then you should have been asked to agree to a credit search. If it was a Guaranteed offer, then it may simply be that you selected an odd reason for the loan or asked for more than the guaranteed limit and they need to speak to you about it.
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...
