is it possible to get my default removed

for the first time in about 7 yrs i have checked my credit report today. the main reason was because i was aware of a couple of debts becoming statute barred recently and i was keen to know if they were off my record, i was surprised to find they were gone completely.
i did however see a default on my account for an unpaid utility bill (320) with scottish power, i was surprised because i provided my parents address as a forwarding address when leaving the property in question 3 yrs ago and have recieved nothing in relation to this debt.
this is the only record still held on my credit file as i have kept a low profile for several yrs till my bigger problems became statute barred, i am keen to clean up my record and will be looking to settle this unpaid bill but was wondering what chance i have of trying to get this default removed, would i have more chance if i try to negotiate a settlement with this as a condition and if so what is the best process in terms of comunicating with them.

thanks in advance

Can you prove that you gave them a valid forwarding address?

If you can, and they didn't bother to send a bill or demands to you there, allowing you to pay them, then the default may be unfair and removable.

e.g. if it's their fault that you didn't have any knowledge of the remaining debt, so couldn't pay it to prevent a default.

You may be able to negotiate removal in return for payment, but that is more likely if you can show that you didn't know of it due to their error.

i have no proof as i have nothing at all regarding this account, i was thinking of emailing scottish power and asking them to send me a copy of my final bill and i could then see what address they had sent it to, i know for sure i gave a forwarding address but that would have been over the phone so impossible for me to prove.
