Stamp Duty

Just noticed on BBC Text that HMRC are looking to clamp down on Stamp Duty avoidance schemes.

Appreciate that is common to suggest including contents at a higher value where might be on the cusp of paying it but this suggests people are trying to avoid it full stop.

I am not buying or selling but just interested what sort of schemes they are referring to.

Any ideas?

  • In think this is what you have in mind:

  • google "stamp duty mitigation schemes" and you will get a whole raft of ways.

Various ways of doing it that I don't think are appropriate for open forum. The proper schemes do make full disclosure and HMRC relied previosuly pna an amnesty type deal to get people to pay up now and avoid penalties or risk fighting their case and getting hit under new penalty regime in palce for self assesment.
like any tax avoidance scheme you should not go into it unless you can afford the consequences of it not working which is why these were originally aimed at the rich
