in Cutting tax
Hi.
I'm an employee through the day and earn just enough to take me into the 40% tax band.
I've recently started using freelance websites to earn a bit of extra cash.
My question is, do I now need to register as self employed or do I just need to register for self assessment?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info CLAPTON.
After what seemed like an endless quest to find concise information that was relevant, I found the following link very useful:
http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/information-and-services/money-tax-and-benefits/taxes/working-and-paying-tax/employed-and-self-employed-tax-and-national-insurance.htm
Hope this helps anyone else looking for the same information.I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T0 -
You notify that your self employed rather than registering, it will trigger the self assessment tax return process.
You either need to register for Class 2 NI contributions or try and claim exemption0
