credit whilst on dmp

Hi everyone,

Ive been on a DMP for a few years now. However, I've also took out 2 credit cards and maxed them out, and a catalogue account ( it automatically opened one for me when i placed my first order . i then couldn't resist maxing it out to the limit). each time the limit has been upped, i max it out again, buying things i don't even need or want.
I believe that i suffer from bi-polar, (haven't been to the dr tho, as i don't want the medication to stop me getting a new job in the future) , and when i'm manic, i'll just spend excessively. (not that I'm looking for an excuse). I have also fallen into the payday loan trap.
I am too scared to admit that I've obtained credit etc, to cccs, for fear of what they will do to me (i struggle to speak to them as it is).
What would happen if i did tell all?

Thankyou for your time

CCCs will probably terminate your DMP because you are not allowed to take out more credit and you have broken this rule and even more so, failed to tell them.

You can get another DMP provider to help you, and may find the enhanced service provided by CAP helpful because they offer face to face support.

If you don't deal with the reason why you spend beyond your means then the chances are that you'll keep on doing it.

You say you don't want an excuse? That's a great start towards taking responsibility for your problems but you also need to address this issue so that its not available to be used as one.

    Totally agree with this.
Before you can tackle your debt you need to tackle the underlying cause or you're just going to be continually in a viscious circle.
Speak to CCCS and see what they say. I'm not sure what they'll do or what additional support they can provide, but just be honest with them. They're not inhuman.
Also speak to you GP. I know you don't want to but until you deal with the root cause it'll carry on getting worse.
I also agree that face to face and practical assistance would probably be more beneficial for you.

I agree with the above posts. I really would urge you to have a chat with your GP about what you suspect might be going on. Please do not think that the diagnosis and / or medication will stop you from getting a job - there is plenty of legislation out there making discrimination on any health grounds illegal. If you had a heart problem or arthritis you would not ignore that...........same attitude should apply to your mental health too. This is not going to go away on its own. You sound like you have made a huge step in acknowledging what may be going on which is positive. Good Luck x

I've decided to hold fire on contacting cccs at the moment. I've just been paid today, and hopefully i'll have sorted out the payday loan issue by next month, . Ive organised a repayment plan with my catalogue, and I'm going make a drs appointment for when I've got a few days off work the week after next. feeling a lot more positive today with everything :)
