Bank accounts.........

Hiya

I have been bankrupt for nearly a month and still feel a bit shocked :embarasse My question is, does anyone know when it is possible to get a debit card again ? I have a basic bank account for wages etc but just wondered if or when to approach my bank in the future for a debit card.

Thanks

Dont feel ashamed at all sweeper !!

The Co-Op apparently give you a Visa electron with their account, and you can have this whilst undischarged.

I kept my lloyds full debit card, they wernt interested ??

    Thanks for that Mike

My IP told me to give all my bank account details to the official receiver and open a new one. I got one at Nationwide and later informed them of my bankruptcy. I sort of wondered whether they might give me a debt card after I had banked with them for a while

Nationwide offer cash card but arent very helpful with upgrading account to debit card even after discharge! Natwest will give Solo debit card but again two years after discharge still not willing to upgrade account (no bounced dd's, etc). HSBC only seem to offer Cash Card. Lloyds (sometimes offer cash card) still refusing basic account 2 yrs after discharge. Co-op offer Visa Electron but we found this as useful as a chocolate fireguard, lol!

Just got a Citibank Current Account with full banking facilities including cheque book, but I don't know if they would offer one to an undischarged bankrupt!

Sazere- Does Citibank offer bank account with debit card for discharged bankrupts?, I have been discharged for 5 months and can not find anyone willing to offer more than just a cashcard.

I'm with Nationwide...got into a very heated discussion in branch with their customer services manager, she was adamant that you had to wait 6 years till you could get either a debit card or overdraft with them.

Phoned up the central number and spoke to someone in their debt team and they said they would review things after 18 months!
  • I went bankrupt in 1998. At that time I was advised to try Abbey. They gave me an account with a Visa Electron card, and later I was able to upgrade to a full Visa Debit card, but not until I had been discharged.
  • Hiya

I've been reading through the threads about bank accounts and saw the info about Citibank. I decided to apply and got the pack through this morning. I'm just wondering whether anyone had applied whilst still in their BR, I've only been in mine since the start of the month.

    Thanks
