In the late 80's i took out a pension with norwich union and in 1989 changed jobs and the pension was frozen with just under £1000 in the fund and its not been touched since, ive just come across the paperwork for the policy and found out that norwich union members where given shares when the company floated on the stock exchange but i have never been informed of this and want to know the best way of going about finding out my entitlement to shares

Norwich Union amalgamated with CU years ago and new share certificates were issued to holders. Then it became Aviva and new certificates were issued again. There's been a lot of water under the bridge since Norwich Union shares were issued to members. Aviva Registrars are currently ComputerShare. Try them on 0871 495 0105. I wouldn't be too confident after all this time but you never know.

Is the pension with profits or unit linked?
