I'm posting this on behalf of my fiance, who really needs some advice. Sorry for the long post, though it best to give all the information.
Last Thursday he returns to work after a holiday. Was told by a colleague there'd been a meeting when he was off, and there would likely be some people paid of the following week. OH recons it could be him, as he has been there shortest amount of time (just over a year). He spoke to his supervisor last Friday, who pretty much confirmed this would be the case and he would know by this Friday (today.)
On Tuesday when OH finishes his shift, he is called into the office by supervisor, told to hand over his keys, fuel card etc and not to come in the next day as he could use his holidays as his notice period - refused to discuss anything further with OH. OH and supervisor do not get on, but have always (until now) kept a professional relationship.
On Wed afternoon, OH gets a phone call from head office, asking why he didn't turn up for work that morning! After explaining to the HR woman he had been paid off the day before, she says that the supervisor doesn't have the authority to do that, any pay-offs would come from line manager at head office. She says to OH she will speak to line manager and supervisor then call him back. When she does, supervisor had told her OH walked out of his shift on Tuesday, and OH had told him he was leaving! OH tells her this isn't the case, and she asks if he would be willing to return to work on Fri, which he agrees to. HR woman also says that there isn't meant to be any pay offs in OH depot.
Yesterday, OH tries several times to contact supervisor to arrange return of his keys and fuel card, supervisor doesn't answer his phone or reply to texts.
This morning OH turns up for work. His colleagues say the supervisor had told them OH had been suspended! OH's name is not on rota for today or for next week. OH shift starts at 5.30am, head office and supervisor don't start until 9am. OH's colleagues suggest he helps one of them with his deliveries, at least then it shows he is willing to work.
Any ideas on where he can go from here? He isn't in a union. The line manager from head office is meant to be in OH's depot on Tuesday, but OH doesn't even know if he has a job or not! Head office says he does but the supervisor won't give him any shifts, or even talk to him! Help!

He needs to be dealing with the line manager and not the supervisor. He needs to get in writing eg email from the LM that he is still employed and that the supervisor did not act with the authority of the employer in suspending him, as he may have to claim back unpaid wages later if he was willing to work and they did not give him work (assuming this is a 'normal' kind of contract where the employer would normally always provide work).
He also needs to secure a meeting with the LM on Tuesday to clarify his position, again following it up in writing to confirm the outcome, favourable or otherwise.

He has no way to contact the line manager directly - all the phone numbers are in the supervisors office in the depot, and the supervisor won't give it to him!0 -
He needs to google the number for head office and go that way. He should ask the receptionist for the name of the manager, and does she have a contact number for him, or alternatively could he leave a message for the manager to call him back. Alternatively he could ask to be put through to HR. And he needs to do it NOW!0

Oh come on - he must have the number for his employer's main office, or at the very least be able to find it online? You need to impress upon him that he does need to assert himself here otherwise things may start to happen which are out of his control. We don't know yet whether the employer will support the supervisor or not.0 -
Alternatively, speak to the woman in HR as she seems fairly helpful and ask her for the number or for her to arrange a meeting. She must be able to do this.0

yes, I have found it on Google. The only number he has ever been given by his employers is the supervisors mobile number, up until now he's never needed anything else.
In my mind, head office don't believe his supervisor very much. According to the supervisor, OH walked out of his shift and said he was leaving. If head office believe that, then why would the phone my OH and ask him to return to work??0 -

I'd tell your other half to phone head office from site not from home. As long as he's there / outside his supervisor will have a hard time claiming that he didn't turn up,0
