New boots broke first time wearing them.. do I need a receipt?

Hi all.
Last week I bought some new boots from house of fraser, they were pretty expensive at £80. Anyway I wore them for the first time this morning, and on the way to work a buckle came right off and I can no longer tie the laces up properly.
What should I do? I don't have the receipt any more.

Did you pay by card? If so then a statement will do the job.
If you paid by cash, then try very hard to remember precisely when you purchased them, they might be able to find them on the system.
Are they a make sold only by House of Fraser (sorry, don't know much about their footwear!!), if so this would make it easier.
You do need to go in as soon as you can and show them the boots. As it is HOF it may well be a lot easier than some of the other shoe shops, but still be prepared for being accused of mis-treating them. Other shops have been known to state that the shoes that broke were not actually meant to be worn very much!!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
That's like the person who took a teapot back that had cracked and was told 'well what can you expect if you put boiling water in it?' :rotfl:
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!0 -
If the boots are branded and from the same store (eg Office shoes bought from the Office store rather then Converse boots bought from the Office store) then you shouldn't need proof, just take the boots back and its their job to either fix or replace them (their choice not yours) or give a refund in full.
It could be easier to give proof of purchase but you don't need it though having said that I'd doubt many store assistants are well educated on that if my experience of working in a store is anything to go by! (I worked for several years in many stores before actually being taught some of the legalities and even then it was fleetingly and not until I got to a head office position!)0
