Prolonging the life of fresh berries

Options
If you buy any fresh berries on a 'reduced special offer'; you can prolong their life by rinsing in vinegar. Prepare a mixture one part white or cider/apple vinegar to ten parts water, rinse the berries in it for a couple of minutes, then drain. This apparently kills all the bateria spores and will allow you to store the berries in the fridge for twice as long as normal without mould appearing.

    Brilliant :T:T:T

I don't know why I didn't think of this as I recently found out that vinegar kills bacteria... so does bleach but you can't put bleach on your food can you :rotfl:

Thank you, I often buy berries on offer and find if we don't eat them that day, by the next day they are mouldy :(

I think I will do that with all berries, whether on offer or not
  • What a great tip, thank you.
