Friday 28th October 2011 - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :D

Morning all,

It's Friday AND payday! :j AND the Halloween weekend which always means a good night out in my circle. Muchos excitement :D

Today I will:-

  • [strike]Charge phone at work[/strike]
  • [strike]Make use of free water at work[/strike]
  • [strike]Food from stores[/strike]
  • [STRIKE]Dinner from meal plan[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Check for surveys[/STRIKE]
  • Enter comps
  • [strike]Check online banking & move funds around[/strike]
  • [STRIKE]Check out this weeks flylady thread & do something[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Try & keep the heating off again[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Finish working out what I've already bought for Xmas & what I need to buy still[/STRIKE]
  • Do at least most of my Xmas shopping online, remembering to use cashback/nectar where I can
  • Stay in for my lunchbreak to avoid unnecessary spending - Completely failed this one! Popped to the cash machine to get money out for tomorrow night & ended up wandering to 2 shops...refrained from buying in one then spent too much in the other one - Bad Perni!!! Might take some back...will think on it...
  • Pay off holiday cc in full & then do not touch cc again until our honeymoon next year! - Have to go into the branch to do this apparently since we don't have a current account with the same bank...
  • [STRIKE]Staying in tonight to save the pennies - everyone is out tomorrow anyway[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Washing on eco setting x2[/STRIKE]
  • [STRIKE]Hang up to dry[/STRIKE]
  • Enter receipts into Mr T's price checker, keep forgetting to do this!
Have a great, MSE day everyone x

    Morning Gang,

Thanks to Pernie for starting the thread – payday for me too...whoop whoop!

Hope everyone else is good – hugs to those that need them

    Today I have/will:
    • Checked online banking – payday so moved a couple of things and put the remainder in savings account til Tuesday (1st of the month = DD day)
    • Updated budget spreadsheet
    • Meals and snacks from storecupboard
    • Dinner is leftover lasagne from Iceland.....pack says serves 4...with a salad we make 6 servings
    • Had a ‘payday latte’ but went to the golden arches as it is cheaper than a coffee shop (it also wasted a bit of time as I got an earlier train)
    • Logged my weight and today’s food on WW website – small gain but T.O.M I think, so expected
    • Washed up my glass and already on glass of water 2 of 6 when I am at work
    • Need to re-fill the bottle that is in my desk drawer for the journey home
    • Need to put in lottery subs for a syndicate where I used to work
    • Put left over change in my coke bottle
    • Read freebie paper on the train
    • Used railpass to get to work
    • Checked quidco – no change
    • Read newspapers online
    • Reading a library book when I have spare time
    • Need to charge up mobile at work
    • Need to do a lifestyle audit using determined’s wheel thingamy (I feel that my wellbeing is suffering as I am taking on a bit too much)
    • Charge phone at work
    • Take vits and meds to control hormones
    • Update food diary
    • Drink plenty of water
    • Need to keep an eye out for MS jobs and surveys
    • Need to do a food plan for the week (Mum goes shopping on a Saturday morning)

Think that is about all, have a great day and sparkle!

    Morning all :j

Still off work (had some leave to use up) :j BUT have developed the obligatory cold  - you know, the one you get everytime you are on holiday - or is that just me? :rotfl:

    Today:

[STRIKE]Have a shower and wash yucky hair in a minute[/STRIKE], Done then-

Mainly do the things I didn't do yesterday: -

    [STRIKE]
    Hoovering upstairs
    Clean bathroom
    [/STRIKE] Done

Get rid of clutter from surfaces downstairs Not yet

    Also:

Bit of ironing  Nope :o
[STRIKE]Load of washing (hopefully I can put it out later?)[/STRIKE] Done, must get it in soon
Cook something nice for supper - sausage casserole looks good! In a minute
[STRIKE]Keep heating off till tonight, then light woodstove if chilly[/STRIKE] Woodstove alight, gas off
Use up a bowl of windfall apples that are slowly decomposing on the table (or throw them out if too far gone) I fear they may have a date with the compost bin tomorrow :o
[STRIKE]Pennies in purse to savings pig[/STRIKE] Done

    [STRIKE]
Investigate banks to see whether I can make another OP to mortgage
    [/STRIKE]
    Done

    [STRIKE]
Tidy front garden if it warms up / doesn't pour with rain. This will mean a trip to the garden centre though to look for a few plants to replace the ones that have been eaten or died  Still, it is a very little front garden, so shouldn't cost too much. Just a matter of filling in the gaps in a few pots really.
[/STRIKE] No, feel too rubbish to go out :(

[STRIKE]Try to persuade OH to replace the broken wires that are (not) supporting the loganberry in one of the raised beds at the back, then I can plant the bulbs I got in the pound shop without the fear of him trampling all over them if he gets it into his head to do it at a later date[/STRIKE]. He ended up having to work, so try again tomorrow :D

Well, all this sounds a bit over-ambitious, so will report back later! Well, it was a bit, but I have achieved more than I did yesterday at least, even though I had a snooze this afternoon :)

    Morning all!
Yeah to Friday for all those that are working and are nearing the weekend and boo for all the teachers on an all too quick half term!

Where has this week gone? I feel like I've had a weekend off not a week:(
Still got loads of work to do before before I go back to work - better get on with it today and not faff about like yesterday.

I'm meeting my best friend for a pizza and movie (Contagion) this evening so looking forward to that but need to get stuff done today before I go.

    So today...
    • Hoover downstairs in case friend comes back later
    • Breakfast and lunch from stores - pizza out later
    • Collect cinema tickets (prebooked - cost £18 for two!)
    • Take back top to Next in Trafford Centre before cinema (£22 back in my account, decided I'm not a bow kind of person)
    • Do at least 4 hours school work
    • Write a list of urgent tasks for work that need to be done in the next few weeks
    • Not spend anything until I go out tonight and then try to be controlled
    • Walk dog again (done 1 already this morning)
    • Only have heating on for an hour today and an hour this evening
    • Did the food shopping at Aldi yesterday to try to save some money (spent £17.80)
    • Not smoke! Doing OK so far (just one small lapse but back on the wagon) - have worked out that I've saved around £20 this week so far from not buying nasty fags and bits from the shop when popping in for them
Right better get on with things....

  • Hello everyone!

Well well, long time no see! Back from the wilds of Africa for a bit of money saving :)

My financial situation has just been thrown a massive curve ball, with changes in my tax status in Uganda meaning that my income is likely to suddenly drop 30% (!!!!!). Though its not enough to put me on the breadline yet, its really poor timing (having just booked flights to Ethiopia for December, eep!!) and will seriously cripple my saving plans over the next year and a half. Anyway going to try my best and tighten the belt a bit.

I'll be honest that Im not as upset about it as I probably should be, since all the non financial things in my life are going so well :) Puppy is still fantastic and full of love (will post photos once I can work out how), boy who some of you old timers remember as a poor decision back in July has turned into a wonderful boyfriend, and my work is fantastically interesting and challenging.

Hope you enjoy your weekend with the kiddies, Karb
Enjoy the film, WW, I have it on pirate DVD at home but havent gotten round to watching it yet!
Thanks for starting us, Perni, what trouble do you have in store for the holiday??:rotfl:

    Anyway, today:
    • breakfast from stores, lunch provided by work
    • boda to work
    • dropped visa application at lawyers, fingers crossed they dont boot me out of this place!
    • went food shopping from list
    • called boy to nick some dill from a friends herb garden :P
    • work like a mad woman to finish things off for the week before heading home
    • FB message potential roommates
    • check banking (not payday yet, doh!)
    • update budgets
    • book motorbike lessons for weekend
    • go home and cook for mahsoove Israeli dinner party - making butternut squash soup, falafel, babaganoush, tebouli, salads, tzaziki, etc for 8-10. A friend is bringing challah and carrot cake and boy will make some kebabs so should turn into quite a feast! Just hope the gas tank doesn't run out as apparently Kampala is nearly out of gas...:eek:
    Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000
:DDebt free as of 1 October, 2010:D
Taking my frugal life on the road!
