My bank has just written to me so say they are increasing my mortgage rate due to the the increased cost of funding and operating mortgages in today's economic climate. Can they do this?

Who are you with? THe sad reality is that if you have a good LTV you will probably be okay and able to get a mortgage elsewhere, but if you have a bad (high) LTV you have to suck it upFeb 2012 - onwards MF achieved

The cost of funding has risen for many mortgage lenders.
This means that some will pass it on to their customers.
If you have a variable rate mortgage they can vary it.
If you have a fixed rate mortgage, or a tracker mortgage (tracking BofE base rate), then they can't vary the rate.0 -
