Did you use your credit card for the wedding bureau too? If so you can use the section 75 thing on that too. I really hope you get sorted out ok, but please make sure you take out insurance. I know there's been other threads on this but once you've paid anything out you're in a position to lose if things like this happen - for the sake of usually less than £50 one of payment it's a lot of peace of mind.
Good luck with your other potential venues x0 -
I was booked in for April next year and they went off with my deposits too. I am waiting for my form off my credit card company. We are now booked into Gretna Chase, they cater for smaller parties, we are having fourteen. They have nice gardens too and bridal suites and deluxe guest rooms are huge.
There is no where else like the Whitecroft unfortunately but you just need to wipe it from your head and start again. We went down a week ago and had another nose round. Auchen Hall need you to book at least ten rooms. Gretna Chase has some of the traditional feel of the Whitecroft and the staff there are lovely :-)0 -
They have tried to book us into the Gretna Chase too but I can't say that I was particularly impressed but we're going up next week to check them out fully.
We're only a small party and specifically chose Whitecroft as it was a small venue; the GC is about 3 times the size which means that I'll lose that exclusivity and the wedding will not be the small intimate affair that it was supposed to be. I'm just not prepared to compromise on something that was ideal for us. It's also on a main road and twice the distance from the actual ceremony venue.
I really do feel for all those that have been left in the lurch; at least I've got time to organise somewhere else.0 -
Why cant you just stay at comlongon for the evening? i got married there, and was there overnight, the food is lovely.0

as time is on your side...why not wait a few months and see how the venue pans out...it may be that they can find a buyer who will re open it in a similar style...
keep looking for somewhere and if you find something better the by all means go for it,but dont assume that because one venue has gone into administration that someone else wont see the potential to re open it...a lot will probably depend on if the administators are able to find a buyer...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Just back on to update; the Credit card company have now refunded the deposit which is good news. I only sent the forms off last week so am really impressed at how quickly it has happened.
Re staying at Comlongon; we have explored this and have decided against it as they were quite prescriptive on what they could offer. For example, we need two nights accommodation but we are only able to book one nights accommodation (if we want two nights accommodation they would not be able to confirm that until 8 weeks before the wedding day!) This is because we have booked with one of the Wedding bureau's and not with them. The charges for booking direct with them are at least double! But fair play to them, they're honest about that and they get bookings every day so they can afford to make those decisions. But yes, I agree with the poster above, it is a gorgeous venue.
The thought that the venue may be bought again has indeed crossed my mind. We are definately biding our time until at least Spring time next year so who knows.0
